I have a two friends whose little brothers have autism. One of them is now interning with the Marcus Autism Center and on a career path to work as a psychologist with children with autism. Talking with her, I realized how there are some great people making amazing progress with understanding autism spectrum disorders and helping people with autism. However, there is still a lot of funding needed for life-altering research and resources for families. Autism affects 1 in 88 children. That is why an amazing organization, Autism Speaks, was founded. This organization is the world’s leading autism science and advocacy organization. There are Autism Speaks Events everywhere. Today’s suggestion for how to change the world is to participate! There is a huge autism walk in Atlanta every year, and I am sure there are similar events in a city near you. As the slogan says, “Autism speaks- it’s time to listen”.
