I know they’re not really that related, but the shared name makes this holiday weekend the perfect time to blog about an incredible nonprofit, Easter Seals. Easter Seals has many local chapters, and provides education and advocacy, as well as a number of direct services, for individuals with disabilities. Besides advocating on behalf of disabled individuals, Easter Seals provides a range of programs, from job training to children’s summer camps. I have a friend that has been involved with them for years, and it really seems like they are doing great work.
So, this week’s suggestion of how you can change the world is to volunteer with your local chapter of Easter Seals. They work with Volunteer Match to really pair people up with a volunteering opportunity that not only helps the organization, but is meaningful to the volunteer.
Easter Seals has regions all over the country, so it will be easy to find one near you. If there isn’t one, consider volunteering for another disability services organization. These organizations are largely volunteer-driven, so you could play a huge part in making a difference!
Enjoy your Good Friday and Easter Sunday! He is risen.
P.S. I especially enjoyed a post on the Easter Seals’ blog about teaching children compassion, if you are so inclined to read it.
