The past week has brought a lot of emotions for everyone in our country. I have many Muslim friends that were legitimately afraid after the bigoted remarks by a presidential candidate, and the fact that his remarks earned him criticism from most, yet were still supported by many. Therefore, this week’s suggestion of how you can change the world is to stand for peace, unity, and love for everyone in our nation.
This sounds very good… but how can we practically do that? The biggest thing is to ACTIVELY seek out opportunity to use your voice. If you have friends or acquaintances that seem to support the growing anti-Muslim sentiment, call them on it. Post on Facebook, twitter, and instagram things that support the fact that Muslims everywhere are dynamic individuals that do not fit into a stereotype. Bravely use the platforms you have to stand up for religious freedom and tolerance.
It is not Ok to fear someone due to their religion. It is not Ok to discriminate against an entire group because of the actions of radicals.
P.S. There are SO MANY “Angel Tree” programs going on right now. Please pull an ornament and buy the gift on it. It is an easy and fun way to make a difference for a child this Christmas right in your own backyard.
