Happy Friday! Today’s suggestion of how you can change the world is inspired by Sarah at Neighbor’s Table. Neighbor’s Table was created when Sarah decided to stop living life just to check accomplishments off a list, but truly to live deeply in relationship. She moved to Dallas, had a relative build her a long table, and made it her goal to have five hundred people over for dinner that year. She helped 500 people, from people at the grocery store to close friends, feel that they belonged at her table. In doing so, she helped herself feel a sense of community and belonging as well. A beautiful thing happens when we gather around a table together. I don’t know what it is, but people open up. Over food in a private home, we share intimate moments. This week’s suggestion of how you can change the world is to help create those moments by bringing people together. You don’t need to be a perfect host. I feel more at home in places and contexts that aren’t pinterest perfect, and I am sure I am not alone in this. You don’t even need to be a good cook (because Stouffers makes lasagna). So, what are you waiting for? Invite someone over for dinner. Everyone belongs at the table.
If you need more inspiration, check out the Neighbor’s Table, and see their quote below:
“What’s holding you back? What’s stopping you from loving the people to the right and left of you? What’s keeping you from slowing down and being present at the table? We know how you feel. Life is full and we get busy doing things without committing to being with each other. But that doesn’t have to be the end of the story. With encouragement, a table to call homebase, and a small willingness to do life differently,we think you can live into your role as a people gatherer.Let us help you prepare the table and love your neighbor.”
