Happy Friday! And, Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
Today, I toured a meat packing company as part of my job, so I have meat on the brain. For that reason, I wanted to think of a related way that you can change the world. That is, you can change the world by participating in the Meatless Monday phenomenon happening around the world. Basically, Meatless Monday began because if people reduced their meat consumption even one day a week, the amount of greenhouse gases would be cut significantly. It also contributes to people eating more thoughtfully, therefore healthfully, and less money being spent on food in most cases. So, it is overall a good thing. Johns Hopkins has a super helpful fact sheet that gives statistics and details on the benefits.
If you love meat, though, don’t worry! No one is asking you to become a vegetarian. Eliminating meat for just one day has significant impact, which is why the international campaign for Meatless Mondays was started in the US and has now spread across the world.
Can’t do Monday? No problem. Just pick one day each week that you choose other protein options. I think you may be surprised at how little you miss it.
If you need some inspiration, here are some of my own tried and true meatless options:
